Once again the children earned enough AR points to have their 2nd themed AR party. ROBOTS! We have recently started our integrated Earth Science and Sci-Fi Language Arts unit. We began with Wall.e and the problem he was trying to solve on Earth- TOO much garbage. Thanks for all those who support your child's reading nightly and for sending in items to help us create our robots. Once the children selected their items they built their flat robot and then using a new app we have been learning they created a robot tutorial on how they may their robots- piece by piece. They had so much fun !

Most of the time I am good at estimating the time to complete an activity/lesson. Not this time. I carefully prepared because I am not a spatial person so must have folded the card several myself wrong! I practiced , made a sequence visual and watched the you tube video ahead of time. :-) So the day came , I thought I'd walk the class through the hardest part - the folding. Next, I modeled where to place the triangle trees so the flaps opened and explained why it was important where we glued down the trees. If did it correctly the card flaps would open. As I expected, the folding was challenging but we did it! Placing of trees took the help I expected. The cards were looking good! Kids were loving how it worked. Then the came the unexpected time. I asked them to draw on the flaps color book style - black lines but no coloring adding to the winter scene. We had skiers, snowmen, a ski lift and very specifc ski lodge, warm houses... ahh melted my heart. Their adorable detail drawings, the holdiay wishes inside.. took the time. Th ebest part actually. Adorable! Enjoy!
Typing Tuesday has been a fun time for the students. A typing app has been used to help the children learn the placement of the letters on the ipad keyboard. However, I noticed using the built in ipad keyboard that many were still unfamilair with the letter placements and they were still using one finger to hunt and peck. So, I brought out the keyboards and attached them to their ipads to encourage using both hands. This made a big difference for the children so Typing Tuesday will continue using our new keyboards!
