As the 5th graders were busy the last 2 weeks ( graduation practice, field trips, etc. ) the 3 and 4th graders worked on super hero writing activities. It started with a discussion of the difference between 'Super Heroes' and a Hero, a read aloud about an unlikely hero and a GO chart. The children were asked to complete a GO with the character traits & actions of a hero. We then moved into their eagerly anticipated subject SUPER HEROES! They started with a directed drawing task and then wrote some basic information about being a super hero. Once this was completed they finished a series of editied writing drafts to create their final draft "My Powerful Wish'. Once the writing was complete, they were asked to make a city or skyscape background and popsycle heroes. These puppets and background were used in an iPad app called Puppet Pals where they read with feeling and fluency their own writing for the class audience which included the 5th graders. They also made 'Compliment Capes' for the 5th graders that they hung on their desks . The 5th graders eagerly read them on their return. | Enjoy their Powerful Wish videos below! |
