We are finishing a quick read aloud, Leprechauns in Winter about how Jack and Annie are sent on a mission to the late 1800's to inspire a girl named Augusta Gregory to share her creativity with the world. She has lost her belief in magic, story and the Shee. Lady Gregory helped bring back the Irish legends, started a theater, and helped the Irish people regain both their heritage and their pride. So, after building their leprechaun traps and the tricks & treats left behind, I thought I'd get the children's opinions about Leprechauns. The children filled out a G.O. chart with 3 reasons they did or didn't believe in Leprechauns. These were then copied using a topic sentence and a concluding sentence in paragraph form ( we seem to keep needing practice in this ) and shared. FYI - more believed in leprechauns than did not. |
