We start off the year with an integrated reading & writing unit with some arguing pirates and a silly parrot. The first 5 days we have watched the video , read the the book & sang the song in large and small groups chorally, used our books in a reader's theatre format while reading with feeling individual characters, decided and written about what the main problems are in the story, came up with solutions, found the pirate's favorite sight words and circled or underlined them and exclaimed numerous ARRRRgs with laughter. Stay tuned for next week's work as we write letters of advice on solving these problems, make a puppet pal movie trying to convince the pirates to listen to their good ideas and record themselves singing,/reading their book! | |
