Every week a new song or poem is taught to support a curriculum or Social Thinking area that we are working on. Of course, the first few weeks we learn everything there is about pirates. This is a very high interest area and motivating for the children. We sing, read, work on vocabulary and write or share a verbal response about some aspect of the song during the week. Every song or poem has numerous focus areas and for this one I had the children replicate the song using their own names and cargo. How to use a dictionary and writing lists began. They drew their special cargo on their ship after a directed drawing activity. They each had several opportunities to read and sing their own song & work on fluency n a fun way. After they practiced singing their song they were recorded and an iMovie was made. This was the highlight of my week. So many giggles. Enjoy the video! | Using the song Roger the Pirate as a model the children wrote and sang their own song . Enjoy! |
