Each math group has been working in small edmodo groups on warm up problems with an aide or teacher present. Edmond is an online networking application for teachers and their students. Think a very simplified closed Facebook platform without ads that is basically a teacher controlled environment. As the teacher, I can develop and assign assignments, ask questions to check for understanding, provide prompt feedback provide visuals, videos and differentiate lessons a bit easier. The students enjoy this type of warm up and going to the safe links I provide. They can reply and type their answers, explain their thinking and increase mathematical vocabulary. thinking. I can also ask targeted questions, give simplified directions they need to read carefully and provide prompt feedback. Far too many times pre written directions on worksheets can be confusing to my students and because I know them well, I can tailor or repeat similar directions for easier understanding. We are now learning how to move between our Larts, Math and Science Edmodo groups. So are the aides ;-) | These are sample pictures of how we used Edmodo as a warm up and also use blocks. They were asked a specific question, given clear directions to follow using their blocks and then asked to reply to a specific question in a specific manner. They are learning how to explain their thinking using mathematical terms and reasoning and are improving! The ability to type reduces some of the fine motor frustrations. |
