We are studying types of clouds and encountered a Stratus low to the ground. So , throwing out a planned lesson we bundled up and walked out side & stood for 2 minutes just listening & noticing. They noticed a sound of 'water' or 'water fall' . They could hear the steady swoosh of the freeway about a mile away. They notice it was calm and they heard small tweets of birds. We then heard the church bell from 1/2 mile away, many were awed. It was beautiful we all agreed. Not a sound as we were all listening. None of us had heard the freeway or church bell before. ( Including me!). We notice the fog acted like a blanket. They all spoke softly. Fog was magic! I then brought out the singing bowl and we ended our mindful listening with our bell. They noted the difference in its sound and that it was easier to anchor on to it in the fog. We all walked quietly to the class. A nice unexpected way to start our day! I challenged them to try it again at home if they ever have this unexpected opportunity again. |
