Learning to read clues from others can be difficult to determine if we are invading someones' personal space. So, we began by looking over a PPoint with pictures of people in different scenarios to decide if a person was invading another's space. We talked about a person's facial clues, how they are facing, crossing their arms etc. There is a great deal of non verbal communication going on! I began lining kids up on specific squares on the carpet and allowing them to adjust themselves. One child was very clear that he didn't like others to be close. Yet when asked to join the growing line, several kept standing in his square when another square or larger space was available. We talked about the People file we had learned about one boy and I asked why so many had become his 'space invaders'. Interesting project. Stay tuned to a few more games of this nature while asking them to look for clues and respecting others space bubble and their reactions or words. | |
