The Question- Do taller children have bigger feet then smaller children? First we lined up according to height which also included both teachers. We sat down in size order, took off our shoes and shared what we had observed so far. Once all the shoes were completed each child placed their single shoe on the banner. Everyone stood behind their own shoe. The result surprised many! Several tall people including the teacher were taller than others BUT had smaller shoes! The children began completing their experiment worksheets for analysis the next time we meet for science.
Can the children find the buttons they carefully observed the day before from a wider range of buttons put before them? Did they take careful notes? What else would have been helpful? This lesson was about how much information we need to note, draw and include in our observations to use or share with other scientists. The children learned they needed to draw both sides of their buttons, measure them as many looked the same but were different sizes, look more carefully at the details like the ridges, bumps etc & label their pictures with what they notice.
