As we end our year with the study of reindeer preparing for our first report (here), I thought I'd tap into several children's keen interest in birds since the reindeer migrate as well.
We read and watched several informational videos and texts about migrating birds. We learned how they flew, their hallow bones, migrating vs non migrating birds, the perils of migration, and what we could do to help birds in both categories.
I taught them how to make several types of bird and animal feeders to place in a locations that we listed to help the birds in winter. Hoping for a family experience during the holidays as well! A gift of time together is something we all need.
To kick start the interest in animals in the winter we read a sweet book titled The Night Tree.
