I read aloud two books and created a compare contrast tree venn diagram. As a group, we brainstromed the differences and similarities of both books. They enjoyed this activity. Once we created the classroom GO chart, the children picked 2-3 items from each category to fill out their own GO. Once they had decided what details they wanted to use they set to work writing their own compare contrast paper using a patterned writing frame. This writing project went through the Writing Process. The pre writing consisted of the read alouds & GO charts. They then wrote their rough draft using their GO charts and books, self edited their work for re reading and looking for spelling , grammar, puncuation & organization. A teacher then sat with them and edited more or conferenced with each of them. Once the edits were completed they wrote neatly wrote their final draft and shared it by reading it out loud to the class. | |
