We have been working on body awareness by noticing "How Our Engine Runs" or how our body feels at different speeds of alertness or arousal. See here. This lesson continues to work on this noticing and also teaches a simple tool to help relax, fall asleep ( great to do before bed) or get ready for a situation that could be challenging. We walked in to find Snowy and Scaredy Squirrel laying on the ground with a cloth over their eyes. Since I can hear Snowy I could hear mumbling 'taking a trip' . Naturally the kids wanted to know what he was mumbling about. We talked briefly that the word 'feelings' can mean an emotion or a sensation in the body. I formally told them they are going to take a trip around they body like Snowy. They had the option of a cloth or not. I then talked slowing asking them to start at their feet, wiggle them , curl their toes then relax them slowly moving to their legs , belly, arms, hands etc. They noticed that they were getting relaxed. Some got sleepy. We talked about good times to use the relaxing scan. | Once we shared out what we noticed and when this tool would be good to use the children worked on their digital Body and Breath books using their iPads and the app Book Creator. Example of book creator book for this class. |
