We begin our year learning that words and actions can be helpful or hurtful. Our first lesson was learning about a wrinkled heart taught by Snowy our kind hearted long limbed adorable puppet. He is going to help teach us this year ! He even has a super power- KINDNESS! Snowy has a heart on his chest and wears a cape! If you look carefully you can see his special heart ! | Snowy is rather quiet but watches us closely and comforts Scaredy Squirrel. He taught us that the words and actions of others wrinkle our hearts. He whispered some phrases into my ear to share to illustrate this idea. As I spoke his words out loud to gasps and knowing nods from the children they wrinkled the heart. The children were able to tell Snowy if they were kind words or hurtful words. He was super impressed with their young wisdom. He then asked them to smooth out the heart after he said some kind words. They tried. Most wrinkles stayed. He was curious and asked why they couldn't smooth out the wrinkles . Some felt with more time & effort they could. Snowy told them that we remember hurtful words and the wrinkles stay a long time. He said the way to smooth the wrinkles was to continue to speak & act with kindness. He congratulated the kids for understanding it takes time and effort to be kind and smooth out wrinkles we may have caused for others. This lesson builds on how we label our thoughts with colors. ( red thoughts are negative, Yellow thoughts are neutral and Green thoughts are positive) See here for more on how we teach this . This lesson will also prepare the children for our Kind Speech/actions & how our Velcro/Teflon brain works . Thanks Snowy! |
