Body awareness is a big component to self regulation & awareness in general. In collaboration with an OT ( who 'pushes in' once a week for body awareness, yoga, motor etc activities ) we taught a lesson about the various arousal & alert levels using a story, movement & a large visual. This visual uses the metaphor of a car engine. Your body can be thought of like an engine- sometimes it runs low speed, just right speed or fast speed. When we are just right speed we are ready to learn, be creative, integrated etc. This lesson simply starts the process to notice & identify how our body feels after certain types of activities. As the year progresses we teach strategies to shift into speeds . This will be an ongoing focus and vocabulary as we learn strategies to help us learn how to self regulate, integrate the sensory world around us and increase our self awareness of our bodies! | Activities to help children begin to notice how their bodies feel in different states of arousal and alertness. |
