This week we had a more formal lesson on what a mindful body was. We talked about how a mountain is very still with a strong base. I asked them to sit like a strong tall mountain. Sitting still is a difficult activity for the boys. But they were up for the 1-2 minute challenge.
We started out talking about what we knew about mountains and why they were so still typically. ( I add the word typically here because they did ask if Volcanos were mountains ;-). Once we could sit like a non volcanic erupting mountain, we talked about where to put our hands & arms. And what to do with our eyes.
I then brought out the bell we have been listening to for a week already . We listened to the sound while sitting in our mountain bodies and raise our hand when we noticed that the sound had stopped.
We will be sitting in our mountain bodies for our daily mindful listening. The formal mindful listening lesson is around the next mountain. Stay tuned!
Welcome to my classroom!
I am passionate, a little bit quirky ( some may say a little bit more) and dedicated to serving children with Autism. These young people have touched me deeply and have made me a better teacher & hopefully person. I want to share what I have learned that allows these beautiful children to grow & sometimes thrive in my class.
