Today we conducted a simple STEM problem - designing a tower with a partner using pumpkins and toothpicks. We discussed the difference and commonalties between the two disciplines before starting and reviewed working in teams. The children made the connection that engineers often used science and scientific discoveries in their work. We brainstormed what engineers built or designed & the importance of using the correct materials. We talked about trial and error and not giving up if first attempts failed. At the end the children completed a simple worksheet and we debriefed problems , solutions, material difficulties and what could have made this task easier. | |
