The children were broken into two groups with magnifying glasses & using a big wall chart with pictures were asked to identify and sort their tray of raw rocks into 4 bins labelled Igneous, Sedimentary, Metamorphic or not sure. They were encouraged to work together, talk, use resources and come to an agreement. The activity lead into an excellent discussion of the difficulty and practice it took to identify rocks. Several rock cycle videos were watched as they prepare to make their own Journey of a Rock movie soon! Many were excited that they were going to be able to use a volcano in they videos. ;-) | |
