Scaredy Squirrel has only one strategy in his tool box to use when he is scared , anxious or worried- he plays dead. For a LONG time. He misses out on so much fun and adventure. So, we decided to teach him about the breathing sphere. It has been our breathing anchor as we are learning to place our attention on our breathing. It is in our Calm down place, Quiet Island.
The children have been practicing using the sphere and pin wheels to breath slowly. They quickly noticed that this helps calm their minds and bodies down. The sphere is one of the students favorite tools to hold and use so far.
For the video below , the children practiced and then volunteered to teach Scaredy Squirrel how to use the sphere.

Welcome to my classroom!
I am passionate, a little bit quirky ( some may say a little bit more) and dedicated to serving children with Autism. These young people have touched me deeply and have made me a better teacher & hopefully person. I want to share what I have learned that allows these beautiful children to grow & sometimes thrive in my class.
