For the week of Valentines many wanted to make and pass out Valentines. I decided to add a few lessons on kindness and compliments. We had already learned that kind words and compliments make the person who is being kind and thoughtful feel good just like the person who is on the receiving end. For a culminating activity, I assigned homework where the children were given a form to write specific compliments for a classmate and return these to school. The children then cut out their strips & moved around the room passing out their written compliments. In silence, the children read the compliment strips given to them. They were asked to "bask" (as we call it ) in the good feelings. Basking is simply pausing quietly and feeling the good feelings for a few seconds. Next the children glued their strips onto their bags for the next day's activity. The general good feeling remained through out the day. It was lovely. | |
