We start out the year learning about how to T.H.I.N.K. before we say it. We learn that words stick and can wrinkle a heart. A wrinkly is very hard to smooth out as the children discovered in these two activities. In activity one I read cards with phrases that gave us a green thought ( positive feeling) or a red thought ( gave us a negative feeling) and with each 'red thought' we wrinkled our class heart. Once done I asked the children to try to smooth out the heart. They quickly learned wrinkles stay. So we read the pledge and signed our band aides promising to try being friendly and not wrinkle other's hearts. | The next time we met for Pirate Club we sorted situations into the think it pile ( pictured with the brain) or say it pile ( pictured with the mouth). The children did an excellent job demonstrating their understanding about how words can hurt and wrinkle hearts. They shared what wrinkled their hearts afterwards. |
