December was the month to study seasons and how we are approaching the longest day of the year- Winter Solstice. We watched several videos on seasons- Their favorite being Bill Nye. This was followed by reading a few leveled science informational pages on seasons and twirling around a sun ( a student). Once we had finished this study, we made a visual to help us understand the reasons for our seasons and the longest day of the year ( tilt, rotation and revolution). We learned how long it took us to go around the sun & how the tilt impacts the various regions of the world. Because we are also learning about a Nordic legend ( Tomten ), we had to go there using our Weather Wise App and check out the weather in some of the coldest parts of the world this month. We went to Stockholm Sweden and the North Pole, Alaska. Once they understood how to use the app they went all over the northern hemisphere using a globe and Atlas. | |
