,As many of you in my class may recall, we begin each day with a read aloud. I began the the biography unit in December with a wonderful book titled "Snowflake Bently". We also watched a few short videos and visited his virtual museum one afternoon. I know many mentioned him to you as several asked about a field trip to a museum ;-) He was an interesting person for the children to learn about. His character traits were excellent topics for discussion, his steady dedication to his dream of photographing snowflakes which started as a young boy inspiring. The geometry concepts imbedded in his discoveries important ones to learn. In addition, learning that no two snowflakes are ever alike really interested many us. We began completing several hands on symmetrical lessons with mirrors, visuals , folding etc. We then made our own symmetrical pipe cleaner snowflakes. Enjoy. PS our next biography is Alexandar Graham Bell... Another amazing individual. Symmetry Mirrors | |
