We have made several G.O. charts for our picture book read alouds. I modeled several and the children have learned to read & understand the combination of simple words , drawings, symbols, what the categories mean ( story elements) and how to use them as a resource for words & key ideas for their writing. They watch me build it and sometimes help be with the drawings ;-) I am a stick figure artist. They are now using these charts as a reference tool for their reading response journals and for organizing a book they read themselves. This is a pre book report activity we are practicing now. I use GO charts for almost every subject and like foldables I use in math, GO charts are a visual way to organize all kinds of information. There are many types of GO charts from venn diagrams, T charts to this one shaped like a pirate ship. They serve many purposes but again are a great way to organize information and present ideas visually. These are also used as our main pre writing activity for writer's workshop, book reports, presentations etc. Very versatile and useful. |
