This week we finished our chapter book read aloud Dragons Do Eat Homework , the GO chart , writing in our response journals and taking the AR quiz. The children were asked to fill out their own GO chart that included the title, setting, characters, problems and solutions. This can be tricky for some so I also read a shorter picture book with a very similar problem to make a comparison which was helpful. In both books a boy's homework went missing. In the chapter book Howie believed a dragon ate it (turns out it wasn't really a dragon.) In the book Where's my Homework ? the boy imagined all kinds of scary things that were only in his imagination. As we head into October this was a fun start to a fun month of scary zombies, witches and pumpkins! In both books the boys imaginations were a problem too. The second book had excellent illustrations so we were also able to expand on how thoughts can sometimes be scary when it is only our imagination. |
